Cat Attack

A three panel, full color comic. In the first panel, Emily, a woman with short brown hair, glasses, in an oversized sweater and sweatpants, sits slouched on the couch, her phone in her hand, which pings with a Pokémon trading card illustration. She looks frustrated and vaguely frumpled. She begins, "ughhh another Sprigatito? What would anyone want with, like, eleven grass cats?" In the second panel, Emily looks up toward the ceiling as she imagines herself surrounded by exactly eleven Sprigatitos, cute little grass-themed cats. Her imaginary self looks absolutely in bliss as she holds a few and others climb on her back. In the third panel, Emily sits up, alert, looking at her phone, saying "ok just kidding that sounds amazing."

Pokemon TCG Pocket has truly given me a blessing in disguise. 🐱

Navel Gazing

A six panel, full color comic. In the first panel, we see a cliff side, marked "diving point" with a sign, with the "tmp tmp tmp" and growing yells emerging from the side of the panel, as well as a leg. In the second panel, Emily launches herself from the cliff, yelling so loud it takes up the entire panel. A narration box labels the scene: "going on three weeks of comics head empty and I'm definitely feeling normal about it." In the third panel, Emily falls downward, addressing the reader with her words: "Steamed Veggies used to be kind of just...whatever I wanted to make. Silly stuff, serious stuff--anything really. Eventually, my journal comics became a place for the deeper topics, and I could focus on making SV funny. Well, to me at least." In the fourth panel, we zoom in on Emily's face, looking a little pained as she squints her eyes and furrows her brow. She continues, "unfortunately, the drawback to THAT are THESE moments when I have nothing funny in the tank. Gee, I wonder why." In the fifth panel, Emily approaches the water and she curls herself up into a cannonball position. She continues talking, "So what do I have in the tank? I dunno, really. I'm trying to find things and make moments that bring me joy. (A lot of danmei, currently.) Surrounding myself with the folks I love. Helping where I can among so much fear." A big text SPLASH sound effect breaks the bottom of the panel. In the sixth panel, Emily sticks her head out of the water, her glasses floating away, as she concludes, "I guess what I'm trying to get at is that we're all trying to keep our heads above water. For whatever that's worth right now."

Poor Timing

A six panel, full color comic. In the first panel, we stand in a warmly lit and comforting tattoo studio, with exposed brick and a wooden floor. Emily holds up an ereader as she talks to Hannah, her tattoo artist, who is prepping her station. Emily asks "Is it ok if I read during the tattoo session?" to which Hannah replies, "Oh yeah, no prob! Whatcha reading?" In the second panel, we focus on Emily who is looking at her ereader as she answers, "Trainspotting! I've never seen the movie, figured I should read it first." Hannah replies with "ah, cool!" off panel. In the third panel, Emily sits on the tattooing bed while Hannah starts working on a tattoo on her left arm. Emily looks down and reads. In the fourth panel, we zoom in on Emily's ereader, which displays a literal description of "Just like, the grossest and filthiest scene description you've ever done read, and also it's in Scots." In the fifth panel, Emily looks with some amount of horror at her ereader, as Hannah works right over her shoulder. In the sixth panel, sheepishly, Emily lowers the ereader, sweating and looking over at Hannah, clearly embarrassed.

At least no one can listen to a podcast over your shoulder. 📚

Any Way the Hair Grows

A four panel, full color comic. In the first panel, Emily, a woman with short brown hair, glasses, and wearing a sweater, stands in profile, visible from the chest up. She looks frustrated as she glares to the back of her head, where her hair has fully run amok. A narration box begins, "My hair has fully hit awkward grow out stage." Two arrows label parts of her hair, the first being the front with "hair is desperately trying to swoop again" and the second being the back with "Hoo Boy, That's A Cowlick! (TM)" In the second panel, the scene changes: we're now in Emily's childhood home, a warm, cozy house with natural wood and cream walls. Her dad, a tall and broad shouldered gray-haired man wearing a sweater stands behind a point and shoot camera on a tripod. The narration continues, "Thankfully, with the holidays, I have the perfect excuse--" as her dad chimes in with 'Emily, are you sure you want to wear that for the family photo?" In the third panel, we swing the camera around, and Emily is standing next to her brother, a tall man cut off by the top of the panel. Emily looks exactly the same as her appearance in the first panel, except she's wearing a large, comical Santa hat. She mirthlessly says "haha." In the fourth panel, we zoom in on Emily, who smiles even more painfully, twitching in the process, capping it off with "Absolutely."

What can I say? I’m just being festive! 🎅 This is the last comic of 2024! See you all in the new year!

And To All A Good Night

A full color, four panel comic. In the first comic, Emily is nestled in bed, only the top of her head visible as she snores underneath covers. A box labels the scene as "Approximately 2 A.M." Mumbling emerges from the bottom of the panel, slowly becoming more red as the unheard conversation below her goes on. In the second panel, we zoom in on Emily, who slowly blinks awake by a large, booming speech bubble of indeterminate yelling from below. In the third panel, Emily wiggles around as she starts to get out of bed, the yelling continuing below her. She thinks, "alright, that's it. It's been over two years of this. No more mister nice Emily." In the fourth panel, Emily stands, now in the hallway, dressed in her pjs, a cardigan, and holding a steaming mug of coffee. In her other hand, she pushes a vacuum in front of her, the noise of it going right over the continued yelling. She thinks in an unbroken string, "shut up shut up break up break up shut up."

In reality, I waited until about 9 AM to start vacuuming, but they were arguing then too. Look, I’m not a monster. 🧹

Two Sides of the Same Coin

A full color, five panel comic. In the first panel, we zoom in on two books sitting on a library check out counter: a volume of Berserk and a volume of Yotsuba&! A library worker stands behind the counter, and off panel, a voice says "Hi! Just need to check these out." In the second panel, we pan up to see head and shoulders of the library worker, who looks down from her computer at the two books, now off panel. In the third panel, the library worker looks up, toward the still unseen person checking the books out, with a look of concern on her face: partially for the book choice, partially for the state of the person checking them out. In the fourth panel, we turn the camera 360 to see Emily standing in front of the counter on the other side, in front of her awaited books she's checking out. Her expression is blank and nonplussed. The library worker is now shown in silhouette, but there's still a concerned furrow on her brow. In the fifth panel, Emily lets out a small "what" at the pause and situation.

Why does the library app keep prompting me “are you ok” and “are you sure” when I place my holds? 📖

Don’t Call It A Comeback

A four panel comic in full color. In the first panel, Emily leans out from the left side of the panel bounds, hand on the line. Her hair is significantly shorter than her usual side swoop, but otherwise she looks the same: glasses, big eyebrows, a red tshirt. She tentatively addresses the viewer with "uh. Hey." In the second panel, Emily moves to the middle of the frame, raising her hand as she continues to talk directly to camera. "I know it's been a while," she says, "I promise I'm still here. Trying to make comics." In the third panel, Emily lowers her hand and sheepishly looks up and to the left. She continues with "So gimme like, two more weeks. Hopefully." In the last panel, Emily is much smaller and in the corner of the panel, shrugging her shoulders as she says "Also for continuity's sake: Yeah I chopped my hair off. Ok bye."

It’s uh, an eventual comeback. A comeback soon. Thanks for your patience as I hit an awful burn out wall for months and have slowly been pulling myself out of it. Normal comics WILL return! On the 22nd, hopefully!
