An Absence

A five panel, full color comic. In the first panel, a bed is shown, comforter askew and the morning light shining in through a window behind it. Narration begins: "On a day that begins with the news I'd been dreading for a month, it feels strange, callous even, to continue as normal." In the second panel, Emily carries a bundle of sheets down the hallway, looking exhausted. The narration continues: "But perhaps, in that way, even the mundane becomes infused with memory." In the third panel, Emily fills up the detergent cap. The narration continues: "So I do my laundry." In the fourth panel, Emily stands at an ironing board, ironing a shirt. The narration continues: "And I iron my clothes." In the Firth panel, a tree is seen outside, with the silhouette of the buildings on the street in the distance. The light is soft and warm. The narration concludes: "And I set out to find small ways in my day to remember you."

Foresight and Hindsight

A four panel, full color comic. In the first panel, a young Emily sits at a table in her room, idly coloring a picture of a field with a sunflower. She looks moody as she slouches a bit in her chair, lamenting "I'm so tired of being bullied in school...I can't wait until I'm older so I'm cool." In the second panel, from off panel, a voice says "Bad news, kid," which Emily reacts to in shock, turning toward the direction of the voice. In the third panel, present Emily stands in the room, dressed in a big blanket hoodie and crocs, holding a mug of coffee. She addresses her younger self with "We are definitely still not cool." In the fourth panel, the younger Emily reacts to the older Emily with an excited shout of "ARE YOU DRESSED LIKE A WIZARD," to which the older Emily replies smugly "Ok we're KINDA cool."

Early Bird Gets the Building Permit

A five panel, full color comic. In the first panel, a woodpecker pecks away at a tree loudly. The sky is warm and soft: it's sunrise. In the second panel, an off panel voice shouts "HEY!" The woodpecker turns in surprise at the shout, a sliver of wood in his beak. In the third panel, we see Emily, disheveled and clearly just rolled out of bed, sticking her head out of the open window next to the tree. The bird looks on as she says, haltingly, "It is. 5 A.M." In the fourth panel, we zoom in on Emily's face, increasingly angry, as she shouts, "And city ordinance restricts construction noises until EIGHT." In the fifth panel, the bird flies away, startled by Emily's noise, as she leans out the window shaking her fist and saying "I will call 311 on you so help me god."A five panel, full color comic. A four panel comic, rendered in full color. In the first panel, Emily sits at a desk, staring down blankly, bent over, her chin resting on an iPad sitting in front of her. Narration boxes pop overhead, reading, "Ok. Make a comic." In the second panel, we zoom in, Emily now looking a little more thoughtful, tablet pen in hand. The narration continues, "Come on. You've been doing this for almost a decade. Just make a comic." In the third panel, we zoom in even more, Emily's expression the focus, looking determined and intense. The narration continues, "Be funny. Just be funny. Come on come on come on." The last narration box gets cut off by the table. In the fourth panel, we return to the original zoom level, Emily now asleep with her cheek smooshing into the iPad. The narration shouts, "NO! Aaaaaaaa" with the final scream being cropped by the table and panel.

Don’t Call It A Comeback

A four panel comic in full color. In the first panel, Emily leans out from the left side of the panel bounds, hand on the line. Her hair is significantly shorter than her usual side swoop, but otherwise she looks the same: glasses, big eyebrows, a red tshirt. She tentatively addresses the viewer with "uh. Hey." In the second panel, Emily moves to the middle of the frame, raising her hand as she continues to talk directly to camera. "I know it's been a while," she says, "I promise I'm still here. Trying to make comics." In the third panel, Emily lowers her hand and sheepishly looks up and to the left. She continues with "So gimme like, two more weeks. Hopefully." In the last panel, Emily is much smaller and in the corner of the panel, shrugging her shoulders as she says "Also for continuity's sake: Yeah I chopped my hair off. Ok bye."

It’s uh, an eventual comeback. A comeback soon. Thanks for your patience as I hit an awful burn out wall for months and have slowly been pulling myself out of it. Normal comics WILL return! On the 22nd, hopefully!

Two Sides of the Same Coin

A full color, five panel comic. In the first panel, we zoom in on two books sitting on a library check out counter: a volume of Berserk and a volume of Yotsuba&! A library worker stands behind the counter, and off panel, a voice says "Hi! Just need to check these out." In the second panel, we pan up to see head and shoulders of the library worker, who looks down from her computer at the two books, now off panel. In the third panel, the library worker looks up, toward the still unseen person checking the books out, with a look of concern on her face: partially for the book choice, partially for the state of the person checking them out. In the fourth panel, we turn the camera 360 to see Emily standing in front of the counter on the other side, in front of her awaited books she's checking out. Her expression is blank and nonplussed. The library worker is now shown in silhouette, but there's still a concerned furrow on her brow. In the fifth panel, Emily lets out a small "what" at the pause and situation.

Why does the library app keep prompting me “are you ok” and “are you sure” when I place my holds? 📖
